Council on Crime and Justice – Speaker
The Council on Crime and Justice is an advocacy group whose mission is to build community capacity to address the causes and consequences of crime and violence through research, demonstration and advocacy. They have been serving others for 54 years. A very interesting group who I expect many of us have not heard about. Here is the website for more information.  www.crimeandjustice.org

Court Watch
Court Watch will start approximately at 7pm. We will review the court progress of the 20 people on our list, who have committed crimes in the 2nd Precinct.

State of the Precinct – date to be announced soon
There has been a tradition of holding a special community meeting to discuss the State of the 2nd Precinct each year. This year, Council member Kevin Reich’s Office is coordinating the event with the Chamber – and the date is still open. At this event we would hear the Inspector review last year’s statistics and this years’ goals.

Open to the Public!
The 2nd Precinct Advisory Council meetings are open to the public.  Please join us if you are a resident, business owner, or other stakeholder in the 2nd Precinct.  We welcome your participation and support.

2nd Precinct Christmas Dinner: Volunteers and Donations Needed

Each Christmas Eve, the 2nd Precinct Advisory Council coordinates a special event for the Minneapolis Police Officers at the 2nd Precinct. We serve a holiday meal for the officers while they are working over the holiday, providing them with food from noon to midnight on Christmas Eve and storing leftovers for officers working on Christmas day.

We rely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals to provide enough food and volunteer time to make this event happen every year. We are looking for additional volunteers to help ask for food donations, arrange donation pick-ups, and serve food at the Precinct on Christmas Eve.

If you would like to volunteer or donate any items, please contact williamlloyd98@yahoo.com.  Bill Lloyd is our coordinator this year and he is working with other volunteers who make the contact calls to businesses, pick up the food on Christmas Eve morning, and serve the food.  We are also asking for some cash donations to buy paper products, such as to-go containers. Thank you for making this event possible!

Click this link to see the letter you can give to a business to request a food donation.

2PAC Board Elections this December 10th, 2012

Board elections will be held at our next meeting on Monday, December 10th at Monroe Village (1900 Central Ave NE) from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Serving as a 2PAC Board member is a great way to contribute to your community and promote safety in our neighborhoods. 2PAC is committed to facilitating this collaborative partnership between the 2nd Precinct Police Department and the 19 neighborhoods that make up the precinct. But we cannot do this without your participation.

We urge y0u to step up and run for a position on the Board of Directors this year.

Please email us at courtwatch.2pac@gmail.com if you would like more information on the roles and responsibilities of 2PAC Board Directors and Officers.

Personal Safety Workshop A Success

Thank you to all who joined us on October 15th for the 2nd Precinct Personal Safety Workshop. A special thanks goes out to Mary Brandl and Dan Melberg for instructing the workshop, helping our community members to better protect themselves from becoming the victim of a crime. We had over 70 people register for the event and around 40 in attendance. The workshop was a great opportunity for Eastside residents to learn valuable insights and skills to defend themselves or, better yet, prevent an attack from occurring in the first place. We are also grateful to Budo Martial Arts for Life for allowing 2PAC to host the workshop in their facility. Please join us at our monthly 2PAC meetings to continue making this the safest precinct to live, work, and visit.

Personal Safety Workshop: Monday, October 15th

The 2nd Precinct and the 2nd Precinct Advisory Council are sponsoring a Personal Safety workshop on Monday, October 15th, from 6pm to 7:30, at Budo Martial Arts at 1101 Stinson Blvd.

At this class, you will learn how distance awareness, body language, eye contact and tone of voice can play a role in preventing a physical assault. Simple physical self-defense techniques are also presented. This workshop is free, paid for by the 2nd Precinct Advisory Council, with space donated by Budo Martial Arts. This may be the only Personal Safety Workshop in 2nd Pct this year. These classes have been very popular. Save your place by contacting Sean at Courtwatch2PAC@gmail.com or calling 612-781-2299.
