Community members have often asked – How do I write an impact statement for a crime in our community.
An Impact Statement is written by a victim or community member who can describe for the court the injury from the crime committed. In the State of MN, these impact statements are required reading for the Courts during different phases of the legal process for a criminal trial.
There are two basic types of impact statement for our purposes. Most of us in the 2nd Precinct will write “Community” impact statements. For those of you who are direct victims of a crime, you will write about your injuries or damages from your own perspective.
See the subheadings above for more information on Impact Statements for Victims/Complainants and Community Impact Statements.
