2PAC Board Elections this December 10th, 2012

Don’t miss the chance to run for a seat on the 2PAC Board of Directors this year. Board elections will be held at our next meeting on Monday, December 10th at Monroe Village (1900 Central Ave NE) from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Serving as a 2PAC Board member is a great way to contribute to your community and promote safety in our neighborhoods. 2PAC is committed to facilitating this collaborative partnership between the 2nd Precinct Police Department and the 19 neighborhoods that make up the precinct. But we cannot do this without your participation.

We urge y0u to step up and run for a position on the Board of Directors this year.

Please email us at courtwatch.2pac@gmail.com if you would like more information on the roles and responsibilities of 2PAC Board Directors and Officers.

Personal Safety Workshop A Success

Thank you to all who joined us on October 15th for the 2nd Precinct Personal Safety Workshop. A special thanks goes out to Mary Brandl and Dan Melberg for instructing the workshop, helping our community members to better protect themselves from becoming the victim of a crime. We had over 70 people register for the event and around 40 in attendance. The workshop was a great opportunity for Eastside residents to learn valuable insights and skills to defend themselves or, better yet, prevent an attack from occurring in the first place. We are also grateful to Budo Martial Arts for Life for allowing 2PAC to host the workshop in their facility. Please join us at our monthly 2PAC meetings to continue making this the safest precinct to live, work, and visit.

Simple physical self-defense techniques are also presented. This workshop is free, paid for by the 2nd Precinct Advisory Council, with space donated by Budo Martial Arts. This may be the only Personal Safety Workshop in 2nd Pct this year. These classes have been very popular. Save your place by contacting Sean at Courtwatch2PAC@gmail.com or calling 612-781-2299.

For the month of April and May we are going to have a Youth Focus. Lt. Andy Smith of the MPD Juvenile Division will be answering some basic questions about youth crime for us.

  • History – what is the recent history of youth crime in SE/NE?
  • What kinds of crime do youth commit?
  • Is most of youth crime just a few kids doing all or most of the crime?
  • What trends are there in youth crime?
  • What other problems does Law Enforcement see with youth crime?
  • How can we help MPD with youth crime issues?

There will be time for your questions too. We hope to learn about youth crime and have a good discussion about an important issue . Please email us at courtwatch.2pac@gmail.com with any questions about the meeting.
