MPD 2-PAC May meeting report, with corrections

The meeting was called to order shortly after 6:30 PM, 10 people attending in person and 3 by Zoom

First and most important:  there was an error in the NIBRS report that we showed on the 11th.   The correct report is below, with numbers corrected bolded: it’s the 2025 stat for “Destruction.Prop. Vandalism.

I do apologize for the error.

I also have to say that the Open  House earlier in the day was better attended than I expected it would be, since the kids were in school and many adults were working.    On the other hand, I got to talk to people from a lot of Safety and First Responder units that I usually
can only read about.

You may see some of them presenting at future meetings.

At the evening meeting, I replied to someone commenting about the teens who go on sprees, stealing cars and using them to commit all sorts of mayhem.

I repeated the complaints I’ve heard over the years about revolving door response to some of these young people [caught, sentenced and back on the streets the same day]    I have heard this for years and have no doubts about it at all. BUT . . .

But fortunately City Attorney Okoronkwo was attending.  He popped up reminding us of some of the effective responses that our courts have been handing out for years.   Restorative Justice is just one of the programs we have.    We’ll get more on the effective responses  at future meetings.

Looking at previous reports I’ve  posted in these meetings, I spotted the  report on RICO, and the recent report on the Youth Intervention
Team (which won an award).

To see what I’m talking about, go back to the entry page you first saw when you pulled up this report.

In the little white box on the left of the screen, enter
RICO  [which outlines the HC judicial response to youth who need redirection]
then enter
O’Rourke [which is Officer O’Rourke explaining his approach to youth who might still be able to listen to an adult friend]

2-PAC Planning Committee — we need one

I’m  delighted to report that Dan Miller has agreed to take on the  position of Treasurer.   We also have two people who have
agreed to serve as “Senior Advisors”   They are experienced Non-Profit members and leaders, who will step in if/when
we need experienced direction.

Mr. Miller has also found a way to bring our “Officer of Month” and “Officer of the Year” plaques up to date.   Before one of our 2nd Pct Lieutenants got going on this, our officer tributes were something like three years out of date.   This will be fixed.  More on that next month.  (BTW: you’ll be astonished at the extremely low cost of the fix.  I certainly was; it was just something that no one took responsibility to do.)

Again:  we need another 6 people to fill a Planning Committee.   It will cost you about an hour a month of fun brainstorming.
If you come, I’ll bring some Sarah Jane’s.

Next Month:  THe MPD Forensic Dept will bring us up to date.  They’ve presented to PAC twice before.   That was back when
the TV series “CSI….” was on (between 2002 and 2012).  Most likely, I called their presentations “CSI: Minneapolis”.
Consider that an invitation to go back to “Courtwatch2pac” and check it out.

Happy Summer!
